FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Are they dishwasher safe?
• Yes. My functional pottery is dishwasher safe.
Are they microwave safe?
• Yes. Most pieces are microwave safe and made for everyday use.
• Please note: A small number of pieces may have gold luster. Because gold luster contains real gold, those pieces should not go in the microwave.
How should I care for handmade pottery?
• Use it and enjoy it. Most functional pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe unless otherwise noted.
• Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes, such as taking a very cold piece straight from the refrigerator and putting it into a hot microwave or oven.
What should I know about unglazed clay?
• The unglazed areas are intentional and may feel more textured than glazed surfaces.
• The clay has still been fired to maturity and vitrified, meaning it has become dense, durable, and suitable for everyday use.
Why do glaze colors and patterns vary?
• Glazes move and react differently in the kiln, so each firing creates natural variations in color and pattern.
Do you offer custom orders or commissions?
• I don’t take commissions for one-of-a-kind designs, but you may be able to preorder something I already make.
Can I preorder something you already make?
• Sometimes. If it’s a piece or design I already make, contact me to see if a preorder is available.
• Handmade pottery takes time, and preorders are worked into my existing studio schedule. Depending on what I’m currently making and firing, your piece may be placed later in the production queue. I’ll give you an estimated timeframe before you order.
Will popular pieces be restocked?
• Often, yes. Some favorites return regularly, while seasonal and limited pieces may only be available for a short time.
Do you offer seasonal collections?
• Yes. I make limited seasonal pottery throughout the year, including fall, Halloween, winter, and holiday pieces.
Is the online shop always open?
• Yes. You can shop available pottery online anytime. I also add larger releases throughout the year with fresh batches of mugs, ramen bowls, seasonal pieces, and other pottery.
How do new pottery releases work?
• Larger releases happen throughout the year as new batches of pottery are finished and ready for the shop.
• Quantities are limited because everything is made in small batches.
• The Potter’s Cupboard subscribers get early access to select releases, giving them the first chance to shop new pieces before everyone else.
How can I hear about new releases and restocks?
• Join The Potter’s Cupboard, my free email newsletter, for new releases, restocks, early access to select collections, and studio updates.
Where can I shop in person?
